TSA PreCheck cost per trip calculator
Updated
PreCheck is a five-year fee, so its real price depends on how often you fly. Enter your trips and the calculator spreads the fee over every checkpoint you pass through.
Your travel
How the calculator works
- Checkpoints in five years = round trips per year x 2 x 5
- Net fee = enrollment fee minus any card or employer credit
- Cost per checkpoint = net fee ÷ checkpoints
The fees come from the TSA PreCheck page, checked October 28, 2026: IDEMIA $79.75, CLEAR $84.95 and Telos $85.00 for a new five-year membership. Renewal is listed from $58.75 to $72.95 online depending on the provider. Fees change, so confirm the current price before you apply.
Worked example
One round trip a year means 10 trips through security over five years. At Telos's $85.00 fee, that is $8.50 per checkpoint. At two round trips a year it drops to $4.25, and at three to $2.83.
When the cost drops to zero
- Some travel credit cards give a statement credit for the fee. TSA keeps a list of participating cards and loyalty programs; check your card's current terms.
- Many uniformed service members can use PreCheck with their DoD ID number at no cost. See TSA's military page for who qualifies.
- Children 12 and under can go through the PreCheck lane with a parent who has it.

Limits
The calculator measures cost, not value. Whether a shorter line is worth a few dollars a trip is your call, and PreCheck only helps on participating airlines.
